Why the Possible Reality of UFO:s is such a Heated Question

  The Common Understanding

The question of the reality of UFO:s is by many scientists regarded
as belonging to the periferal region of science, but this ranking can be switched by pointing out that it contains the question: are we alone in the universe, or do we have neighbours of the same kind as ourselves? “Same kind” here means “thinking beings”, and — maybe — smarter than we are! The later possibility clashes with our conviction, that we are the crown of creation, i. e. in comparison with the other animals, and that would knock down our tendency towards hubris by the statement “Aliens are more intelligent than we are”. Besides, aliens might have a better ethics than we have, because they seem to have solved the aggressivity problems, i. e. they are not killing each other in egocentric powerstruggles.

  The Hidden Ambivalence

There is also a startling inconsistency of attitudes towards the question, shown by taking two contradictory positions — often by taking the second immediately after having taken the first:

1) The question is not important and it is already decided.
This is based on  a blank denial of the possible reality of UFO:s as physically impossible, which is claimed to be “scientifically proved”.
After such a statement all further arguments should be unnecessary, but then comes the opposite position:

2) The question is important because it  requires an interference.
This is often performed as vehement attacks at theories, empirical evidence(esp.photos of UFO:s), and even the persons (!) who are trying to argue in favour of the reality hypothesis. The theories are said to be “speculative with no ground”, the photos are “hoaxes”, and the persons are crazy/psychotic.
To this cathegory belongs also  the “debunking activities”, performed with the  investment of great energy by a special commission at NASA in USA, and other organizations in other countries.

Those possibilities shows that the question does not belong to the curiosity cabinette, and that would be argument enough for a reconsidering of the question.

   The Standard Objection n:o 1

Among physicists the first objection to UFO:s comes from a “theorem” in the Relativity theory (Einstein), which says that “when a  body (a spaceship) is approaching the speed of light in an accelerated movement^[1] , then its mass (“heavyness”) will increase towards infinity”. This would stop all journies in space-time, because:

1) The nearest sun is on a distance of 4 light-years, and

2)  the nearest solar system, suspected to harbour humans-aliens, is the Pleyades^[2] , at a  distance of 40 light-years (!). A journey with the speed of ordinary space rockets like  “Explorer” would take millions of years.

   The Hidden Gateway — Electro-Gravity

We all know Electro-Magnetism as the fusion of the two forces into the combination which is the working force in most of our technology. The fusion is performed by a simple gadget: a coil of copper wire  with an iron kernel.

Now it could be possible to make another fusion, namely Electro-Gravity^[3]  (EG). This theory was originated by the American electro-engineer, Thomas Townsend-Brown^[4] .

The EG generator works with a system of condensators (not a different type of coil with a different metal rod).

The EG-generator produces an anti-gravity force, driving the ship, and a surplus effect: the ship is made weight-less (!), encapsulated in a bubble of anti-gravity. Thus it should go free of the relativistic growth of mass, caused by accelerating high speed. This bubble would also function as a protective belt around the ship, warding off a lot of high speed stone shots.

   The Unconscious Reasons of the Turmoil

Freud had his theory of an unconscious sector of the mind, protected by defence mechanisms. As the source of human neuroses and irrational behavior, Freud put his “Greek mythologization of the perversions” (i. e., the Oidipus, resp. homosexuality, transvetism, etc.). Now almost 90 years of experience, and maybe also the changing cultural climat, has shown that people are seldom so complex filled, because of being ashamed of their perversions. No — many people enjoy them^[5] . Instead I would propose that the deepest source of many problems and irrational thinking^[6]  is the 

   world picture. 

This is evident from the history of science, with the controversy between the Catholic church and Galilei is the prime example. Einsteins Relativity theory caused the next paradigm shift within physics, and now we are meeting the need of a “Zweistein” (litterally: “Twostein”), who can effect the awaiting paradigm shift, in line with “the signs of Aquarius”, and that could bee an opening of the mental doors for the possible reality of UFO:s.

   The Standard Scientistic World Picture

The standard mechanistic world-picture or reality conception shows us a world  consisting (only) of “atoms and empty space”. 
That space is empty is regarded as proved by a “crucial experiment”, peformed by Michelson and Moorley 1912. Their instrument was a variant form of the instrument used for measuring the speed of light, which was applied in such a way that it should show the eventual “ether wind” in the direction of the earth’s orbit around the sun, if space was not empty, but contained a thin field, called the “ether”. The experiment did not show any such signs, but the validity of this experiment has been  questioned^[7],^[8]  .

The human beeing — which is a part of the world — is said to be the result of a series of coincidencies^[9] . Now, if UFO:s can be shown to exist, then this probabilistic explanation gets less probable, when put in contrast to the possibility that living beeings with information processing systems have a universal occurrence — not to be found “everywhere”, but at least “here and there” over the whole universe.

“Scientism” is a term coined by Habermas, who means a research strategy, based on a self-understanding, articulated in the terms only of  its method language. This means that the system for knowledge formation^[10]  lacks a level for a meta-language^[11],^[12]  . The later is necessary,

1)  because otherwise its abscence will generate anomalies in the system.

2)  because it is needed for getting an overview of the whole system and a deepening of the self-understanding.

3)  because it is needed for the development of special terms  for the different moments and factors in a knowledge system. 
Some of the key terms in this vocabulary are building up the “paradigm”, not in Tomas Kuhn’s vague meaning, but in the more definite meaning of the above Tornebohm’s theory of science (see figure 1), which  can be condenced into the simplified catchwords “the house of knowedge needs three floors”.

  Levels of arguments and the central factors in the debate

The debate of the possible reality of UFO:s is often structured as if it were a question of a standard hypothesis testing against “empirical data”, especially in the camp of sceptics and debunkers.  
Now this simple test does not hold in many areas of physics, which require a more built out model of the testing apparatus, connected to the afore-mentioned house of knowledge.

The advantage of this switching of the perspective is that now it becomes evident that it is a debate between two clashing worldpictures and paradigms, and that this goes much deeper than the level of a-theoretical testing with “empirical data” taken for granted. Now  the three floors in the house of knowledge are:

1) interconnected and co-working,

 and att the same time

2) different in quality and level of abstraction.

Empirical data are on the lowest level of abstraction and generality,whereas the world-picture is on the highest (3:d) level of abstraction and generality.

In this problem  network many debunkers^[13],^[14]  are committing
an error => implicitly they are presupposing that their worldpicture is true, because  it is scientific, and can therefore be taken for granted. Now the world-picture is  an axiom, which is the starting  point of proofs, but  axioms themselves cannot be proved. When debunkers are overlooking this principle of logics, they are using their world-picture as an decisive argument, but this form of “instant proof” is invalid,  because it is presupposing as already true what should be investigated by the discussion. This means that the controversy belongs to theory of science^[15],^[16],^[17],^[18],^[19] , and not to a simplistic form of empirical science.

  A Form of Indirect Evidense for the Reality of UFO:s —
   the Crop Circles

As a  rule the sceptics are  rejecting all photos of UFO:s as fake ones. Now, as we all know, there is a second cathegory of mysterious patterns, clearly visible, and that is the well-known crop circles. But even here some debunkers have their dismissing  argument: the circles are homespun, because they are the handycraft — or rather — footycraft work of late homewalkers from the pub, who are making the circles with the help of pins and strings. And from the fact that some of the circles are homespun, the debunkers make an inductive generalization from “a few” to “all members of the population”. This conclusion is invalid, if the number of homespun is about 5% of the total (about 120 circles every summer in England).

Besides, there are three other differences between two types of circles, which I will call resp. “homespun” and “genuine”.

1. In the homespun there are plenty of footsteps from the workers, but in the genuine ones, there are no  footsteps.

2. In the homespun the straws of the seed are crushed and the straws will die, but in the genuine ones the straws are  bent^[20]  in a quarter of a circel and still alive, which requires some form of electromagnetic influence and a technology on a higher level than our present one.

3. In the homespun the pattern in the circel is a rather simpel one, but many of the genuine ones have complicated patterns which require mathematics/geometry of a high level for the making of the design, e. g. a curve called the “evolvent^[21] ”, successive changes of size in a series  of circles which are logarithmic, the figures are often four symmetric. (See figure 3).

The homespun circles are the product of Ingo Swann’s stereotype thinking^[22]  

The Radical Assumption— the circles are made by UFO:s

There is a lot of theories about the origin of the circles^[23] . 

One of the more radical of them is that the genuine circles are made by UFO:s. The supporting reasons for this theory are the following:

1. UFO:s have the technological equipment for the doing of it. The famous disk must reasonably contain some hundreds of magnetic/electronic coils/condensators for creating the anti-gravity field that keeps the ship hoovering. The pilots of the UFO have a computer showiing a map over the coil system. On this gadget the pilots can rather easily organize any type of pattern known to geometry. Then, just for a second, they switch out this pattern and directs its loading power down towards the ground, and  — bzzzt! — an electromagnetic wawe package goes down  and stamps in the pattern of a crop circle. There it is!

2. The crew of the UFO (the “aliens”)^[24] 
have the required knowledge in mathematics, technology, figure design for doing it.

3. The staff of the UFO:s have a message to the inhabitant of Tellus, and it is: switch your perspective, world-picture, image of Man — and your week self-understanding^[25] !

Otherwise your culture will crush.

   Why the Circles as Messages?

Sending a message to the majority of Tellurian is a hopeless 
enterprize as long as they have a denying attitude towards the reality of the senders. Thus the first thing to do for the messengers is to prove their reality — to a lot of stubborn and unwilling people.
Here they know — together with Wilhelm Reich — that when you want to make a change in the patient, you have to start with the defences^[26] .

Then the UFO staff has concluded that figures with a diameter of 60 meters cannot be denied completely. They can be explainde away by the debunkers, but they are at least a reminder.
