In Mamontovaja Kurja archeological findings of human activites are found proving that Arctic Regions were inhabited 40 000 years ago.

Its a turning point in the study of the European prehistory to find depicted signs on a 40 000 years old tusk of a Mammoth, in Mamontovaja Kurja, situated by the polar circle on the lowland slopes of the Mountains of Ural.
John Inge Svendsen at the University of Bergen states that it takes a highly social and technically evolved tribe to stand the rough conditions of the Siberian glaciation.
