Avaldsnes and the Hardings.................

Still in the beginning of this century sailors from Hardangerfjord made
the trip to Troms and bought fish, then they went south again, and the
brave ones made it outside the archipelago of Southern Norway.

Some of them took a brake in Avaldsnes, others on Brännö, before
they sailed all the way into the Baltic Sea where they traded their
products in the harbors of the wealthy cities of North Eastern Europe.

I met a man, close to Norheimsund, in Hardangerfjord, this summer,
and he was old enough to remember all this by own experience.
In a sudden I saw deep into the oldest times - this man gave life to
sailing history and he was a link to long gone times.

Not far away from the beautiful home of his there were
Rock Carvings on the steep rocks by the fjord - links again -
to prehistory and bronze age shipping.

It´s important to keep memories alive and find the links.
